Carmelo Anthony shocked a throng of reporters at Madison Square Garden last night by saying that he had been fasting for the past 15-days. The Knicks superstar didn't get into too much detail, but did say that the fast came about because it helps him with "clarity" and that he was done with the fast now.
"It's a long story man. I haven't had a good meal in about two and a half weeks. No meats, no carbs or anything like that so I don't know how I was out there competeing at a high level. I'm kind of going through something right now with my own self, trying to find some energy and things like that. But we'll be fine," Anthony said. "We bounced back pretty well, I bounced back pretty well, stuck with it and won the game. I usually do it sometimes just to get some clarity in my life and just spiritual reasons. I'm done now. I can't do it no more. I surrender." Anthony's numbers during the 15-day stretch dipped to 30.8% shooting from the field & 6.5 points in the first quarter. In the 24 games before that his numbers were: 53.5% & 9.8 points per first quarter. At a Jordan Brand event for his M9 sneaker last night after the game, Anthony said he had felt depleted during the past 15-days but this was something he did every year to rid his body of toxins.
“I do this every year, once a year. I usually do it during the season, do it the same time every year,” he said. “No meats. You can do carbs. No fried food, no bread, no soda," he said.
