He came into the league with high expectations from USC, but O.J. Mayo hasn't quite lived up to his No. 3 overall draft selection. Sure, he's had his moments, but Mayo spent the past few seasons as the Sixth Man with Memphis. Now, as a Dallas Maverick, Mayo has the full support of the Mavericks executive Eddie Najera, and also owner Mark Cuban who feels that O.J. could be a star in the NBA.
From the Dallas-Morning News :
Said owner Mark Cuban on Mayo: “I think he can be a star and I think O.J. knows that this is his make-or-break, who-am-I-really-going-to-be-in-this-league year. And Coach [Rick Carlisle] is going to give him that opportunity. We’ll see what happens.” “You can see it in his eyes,” Najera said. “He looks like he’s really ready to move his game up.”
