Cavaliers star point guard Kyrie Irving will be out of action until the beginning of training camp in late September after breaking his hand, in what is being described as a "freak accident." Irving has broken his hand slapping the padding on a wall at the team's practice site in Las Vegas yesterday.

Irving caught the attention of media and onlookers at Team USA scrimmages last week with his superb ball-handling ability but now faces weeks without basketball action. The Cavaliers have not put a timetable on the return of the face of their franchise but remain hopeful that he will be ready come pre-season time.

Irving admitted he needs to be more careful in situations like this from now on.

"It was just a freak accident," said Irving, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 draft. "I am a little disappointed, I have to be more responsible about my health. It was just crazy. It happened so fast."
