Elton Brand has been amnestied by the Philadelphia 76ers the same day that the franchise announced the Nick 'Swaggy P' Young was joining the side on a one-year deal. The $18 million owed to former Clipper Brand will not count against the 76ers salary cap next season but the player will still receive the full amount from the Sixers. The move was made necessary to make room in the cap to sign Young from the Clippers, and also due to the re-signing of Spencer Hawes. Brand will now hit amnesty waivers where he'll be offered to teams under the salary cap, with under-the-cap teams able to lodge bids for him. If no team claims the former All-Star then he will be considered an unrestricted free agent and eligible to sign with any team he chooses. Young signed a one-year deal worth roughly $6 million and the player's agent, Mark Bartlestein, said the 76ers situation was the right one for his client. "He's got more size, gives you a little more versatility, and Nick's a big-time scorer," Bartelstein said. "The more we took a look at the situation, it's a perfect fit for Nick at this stage in his career."
