The Steve Nash saga has reached its end. On a day where the two-time MVP was linked with the Lakers, then the Knicks appeared certain to claim the All-Star, finally in a surprising twist, Los Angeles have swooped and gotten the point guard they sorely needed over the past few seasons.

Nash will join the Lakers in a sign-and-trade from Phoenix in which the Suns receive multiple draft picks from Los Angeles.

Ultimately it was some persuasion from superstar Kobe Bryant that changed Nash's mind about donning the purple and gold after it seemed certain that he was headed to the Big Apple. New York had reluctantly included Iman Shumpert in their proposed package for a sign-and-trade to make the deal happen.

Nash will receive a three-year deal in excess of $25 million, sources said, because the Suns ultimately agreed to sign-and-trade him to the Lakers, who can absorb Nash via the trade exception they created by dealing Lamar Odom to Dallas in December.
