Brooklyn Nets forward Gerald Wallace has opted out of the final year of his contract and will become a free agent this summer. Wallace had until midnight Wednesday (US time) to decide on his $9.5 million player option for 2012-13 and decided to opt out and seek a long term deal. The Nets are hoping to re-sign Wallace to a multi-year contract but may wait to see what point guard Deron Williams decides upon first.

Walace averaged 15.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 16 games after being traded to the Nets at the trade deadline, and was due to make $9.5 million in the final year of his deal. The Nets may have an opportunity to sign Wallace for less money over a longer-term deal.
