Nets Win Game 1, Know Job Is Far From Finished
Written by Nick Metallinos    Sunday, 21 April 2013 21:05    PDF Print E-mail
The Brooklyn Nets had been waiting for this night ever since coming across the Hudson from New Jersey last season - you could argue they had been waiting for this moment for a number of years given the team's poor record in it's final days at the Prudential Center (Deron Williams hadn't played a playoff game since May 10, 2010), but the Nets had come to let the Eastern Conference they were for real.

A, surprisingly, raucous crowd welcomed the team at Barclays and from the opening tip the Nets were all business as they set about demolishing a Chicago team playing without Derrick Rose, and a visibly hobbled Joakim Noah. Brooklyn played arguably their best game of the season, right at the time of year they were hoping to be...

Martin/Kidd Catalysts For Knicks Game 1 Win
Written by Nick Metallinos    Sunday, 21 April 2013 14:59    PDF Print E-mail
It certainly wasn't pretty basketball at Madison Square Garden on Saturday afternoon, but the Knick faithful lapped up every second of it. On a day where their two most potent scorers, Carmelo Anthony (36 points on13/29 shooting) and J.R. Smith (15 on 7/19), just couldn't get their points efficiently, it was two veteran guys brought into the fold last summer and late this season respectively, that set the tone for what is sure to be a bruising series. Both Jason Kidd and Kenyon...

Rasheed Wallace's Departure To Be Felt By Knicks
Written by Nick Metallinos    Friday, 19 April 2013 00:11    PDF Print E-mail
Even as Rasheed Wallace continued to miss games for the New York Knicks since January, his presence around the franchise was felt in one way or another. From yelling out encouragement from the bench, or pulling a teammate aside pregame, Wallace made sure the players knew he was still around for them.

On Wednesday, as the Knicks prepared to close out the regular season, their 82nd and final encounter coming against the Atlanta Hawks, 'Sheed was gone. New York's front office had...

Knicks Live And Die With J.R. Smith v Thunder
Written by Nick Metallinos    Friday, 08 March 2013 16:16    PDF Print E-mail
There was only one man the ball was going to in last night's game with the Knicks down 1 - minus their leading scorer, Carmelo Anthony, who withdrew prior to the game with knee soreness - and just 7.9 seconds in the game: J.R. Smith. The mercurial guard had almost single-handedly kept the Knicks close to that point, especially after a first quarter in which the Thunder appeared ready to roll over the Knicks who were playing their fourth game in five nights.

What you saw last night was...

Mark Jackson Comes Full Circle With Return To MSG
Written by Nick Metallinos    Thursday, 28 February 2013 18:11    PDF Print E-mail
For Mark Jackson it was once an arena that he knew all to well, from a kid as a fan of the Knicks to his days as a player for the organization, but yesterday the Golden State Warriors coach needed some help finding his way around the newly renovated Madison Square Garden. Due to the lockout-shortened 2011-12 season, Jackson was not able to coach against the Knicks in his hometown, but last night his career finally came full circle when he made his long awaited debut in front of family and...

Stephen Curry Torches The Knicks At MSG
Written by Nick Metallinos    Thursday, 28 February 2013 05:54    PDF Print E-mail
Stephen Curry said he felt good all night, but not even he could have expected the offensive explosion he showcased from the second quarter of last night's game. Curry finished with 54-points (a career-high) as he turned the World's Most Famous Arena into his own private Rucker Park, displaying his entire repertoire. Curry scored 50-points in the final three-quarters of the encounter (including finishing one 3-pointer shy of the NBA record with 11/13 attempts), and although the...

LeBron Shines In Heat Win Over 76ers
Written by Nick Metallinos    Sunday, 24 February 2013 17:21    PDF Print E-mail
It's not often that a 33-point night (on 14-18 shooting) from Dwyane Wade is over-shadowed, but LeBron James once again stole the show at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Miami steamrolled to their 10th consecutive win behind James - almost blasé - triple-double. The Heat forward finished with 16-points (7-12 from the field), 11 assists and 10 rebounds in front of a Philly crowd which had just as many cheers for James as it did jeers.

The crowd was especially vocal in...

Joe Johnson Saves The Day For Brooklyn
Written by Nick Metallinos    Wednesday, 20 February 2013 05:37    PDF Print E-mail
Just when Brooklyn appeared certain to lose their 14th consecutive game to the Milwaukee Bucks, Joe Johnson stepped up twice to save the day for the Nets, doing something he's done throughout his whole career, and has now done four times this season alone: Hit clutch shots that have helped win games for the Nets.

Johnson was brought in by Nets management to be the team's closer - a role that he struggled with in the early stages of the season - but one that he has become more...

Changing Of The Guard: The Evolution Of NBA Point Guards
Written by Devin Langford    Wednesday, 13 February 2013 01:31    PDF Print E-mail
There's been a visible difference in the NBA in the last 20 years. The game has gotten more athletic, less physical and faster all since Michael's first ring. Earvin 'Magic' Johnson  broke the mold in the early 80's: a 6'9 point with undeniable flare and remarkable passing ability. Then there was Isaiah Thomas, the gritty kid city kid with a pit bull's toughness and a knack for big moments. There was Gary Payton, John Stockton, Tim Hardaway, 'Penny'...
